The Great Space Coaster (Get On Board)
Have I mentioned that I am a massive Retro TV and Culture Repository?
I think I have.
But for the record. I am.
Perhaps that’s why I enjoy shows such as the Family Guy (just made fun of by South Park) and Robot Chicken.
Sure, Family Guy is a Cartoon in the form of the Warner Bros shorts. The plot is often stopped for one off jokes that don’t move the story line along at all. Most often the little one off jokes are the one s that make me roll around on the floor, laughing.
Recently, they did a one off that *made* me remember a TV show that I had safely forgotten. One that probably deserved to be tucked away, far into the subconsious.
Now it’s here to stay.
Anyone Remember the Great Space Coaster? because, believe you me, I do now.
This show started with an animated beginning that looks to have been stollen from the likes of The Kroft brothers (Who made such Great shows as HR Puf-N-Stuf, Lidsville, and Land of the Lost *As a side note, if you garage sale, find one of these lunch boxes, let me know. Please*).
I think you can appreciate why this show drew my attention.
Much like a moth to the fire.
It’s a mixture of Puppets, and a drug trippin intro. So, here are a few screenshots from both intros, as well as a link to Retrojunk (A site that has all the theme videos to your favorite 70s, 80s and 90s tv shows. Excellent)
And lastly, the wonderful, wonderful Lyrics:
It’s The Great Space Coaster, Get on board.
On The Great Space Coaster, We’ll explore.
A comet ride of fantasy,
To a place where dreams fly fast and free.
With new friends and new things to see,
We’ll spin you through the galaxy.
On The Great Space Coaster, Wo-o-oah.
On The Great Space Coaster, Off we go.
Get on board, Step inside,
Soaring for a magic ride.
Rowing toward the other side,
Where only rainbows hide,
On The Great Space Coaster, Oh-oh-oh.
On The Great Space Coaster, Get on board.
On The Great Space Coaster, Get on board.
On The Great Space Coaster, Off we go.
Don’t say I never gave you anything…
You are truly weird. That doesn’t come from my side of the family. I guess you know what that means.
Not wierd… And *I* am not the one that would tell his children to come to the dinner table
in MANDRIN!
Wierdo 🙂
As for the lunchboxes.. This is what I want!
On the greaattt space coaster…
I freaking loved that show.
Realllyyy… 😉
I loved The Great Space Coaster! Anyone remember Frannie, the very pretty 16 year old brunette singer/guitar player/female lead of the show? Frannie use to play many practical jokes on Puppet Goriddle Gorilla. Frannie used to tickle Goriddle and you used to see a gold ring on her ring finger while she was tickling him. Frannie was played by the very talented singer/actress Emily Bindiger. Please sign the bring back the great space coaster online petition @ http://www.petitiononline.com/TGSC because it now has 2,030 signatures. The Great Space Coaster Homepage @ www. great space coaster.com has recently been updated for 2006 with new pictures and videoclips of the cast. The Great Space Coaster ran 7 seasons syndicated from 1980 to 1987. Does anyone remember the anti-gravity day episode where everything in Coasterville, including Frannie’s guitar went flying up into the sky! Does anyone remember the time where Goriddle Gorilla stole Edison Elephant’s Scarecrow to use to play Soccer? So as a practical joke using a hammer, wood, nails, and rope, Frannie made Goriddle into a fake Scarecrow in Edison’s corn garden to teach him a lesson for stealing! Was Frannie about 5ft. tall in height? Does anyone remember The Great Space Coaster being shown as reruns on Cartoon Network back in 1994? The Great Space Coaster had many celebrity guest stars including Sally Struthers, Bess Armstrong, Linda Gray, Aileen Quinn AKA “Annie”,”Mary” Kathleen Turner, Richard Kiel, Henry Winkler, Charlotte Rae, Geri Jewell,Dr. Joyce Brothers,Carol Channing,Rock Steady Crew Dancers, Composer Marvin Hamlisch, Ice Skaters Tai Babilonia and Randy Garner, Valerie Harper, Mark Hamill, and Singer Karen Carpenter- May she always rest in peace in heaven. Does anyone remember the time Goriddle Gorilla was trying to do a talk show @ The Coasterville Ampitheater? So Frannie as a practical joke kept hitting a bell on the table to distract him. Goriddle yelled, “Dont ring the bell, Frannie!” But she kept on doing it! Does anyone remember the time Goriddle Gorilla stole Baxter The Clown’s Father’s Bananaman Videogame Birthday Present? So as a practical joke, the 3 teenagers Frannie, Danny, and Roy took all of Goriddle’s Bananas away from him to teach him a lesson. What’s your favorite Great Space Coaster Episode with Frannie and Puppet Goriddle Gorilla? I remember the time Frannie found Goriddle on top of The Coasterville Ampitheater pretending to be King Kong. I remember the time Frannie and Goriddle sang a song together about being special. Frannie used to rub Goriddle’s tummy with her hand to be affectionate a lot. Lets get this classic 1980’s live action/ children’s t.v. show back into rerun syndication and on dvd volumes for another generation to enjoy!
It’s been a while since I’ve visited your blog–sorry! Which means I missed this entry until today. I loved the Great Space Coaster! Nobody I know ever seems to have watched it besides my family. I still refer to the news as the G-new g-news with Gary G(-)nu occasionally, and it’s lovely when someone else knows what I’m talking about.
stacer: no worries. I am just a pop culture junkie.
I <3 me some pop culture.
