Today is day two. Day one consisted of me working to get out of bed and then packing. As a lot of you know, it takes a lot for me to pack, because, well, I pack everything.
Yes. I really am a freak of nature. I’ve had family and friends tell me this. After getting all the junk packed, I proceeded to hit the road. Seven hours later, I made it to the Parents house. Soon I was seeing grandparents, cousins and uncles. It was a good time, and I particularly enjoyed confusing a little cousin of mine.
Now comes the drive to the mission grounds.
To address some comments. Momma Moore: Not enough time, but next time up here, I won’t ignore ya’ll. To everyone else, thanks.
Oh, and while everyone else in the world was in line to get a Harry Potter book (So, those of you have read Deathly Hallows already, is it worth it?). I was at my parents reading blogs and found “Hung up” by Madonna (via The Voice of Reason). It’s catchy, its dance centric, and Madonna. So be aware if you watch the video that there are things you might object to in the video(I do want that boom box).
Some of you might wonder whats happened.. I know my family has been asking what happened… It could be that the Qwest connection is spotting every time it rains and my IP address changes (curses qwest!). It could be that I was mauled by a bear at Yellowstone and lost both arms (no, not really).
Cool stuff has happened. Births of Nephews, promotions, growing of beards, shaving of beards.. But life just hasn’t been at the point where I feel the ability of the need to blog about mostly superficial stuff. Just let it be said that I am threadbare and sometimes down.
I do get to do something that I am looking forward to training in California. I’m excited because I get to learn more about something that I enjoy doing, computers. Another part of me is looking forward to seeing my old mission area. Of being able to take photos of old areas as I travel to the training. I plan on having plenty of memory, and hopefully updating my blog a little as I can so that people can see.
My mission, though a while ago, makes up a lot of who I am. I went into it one man, and returned another. Though I only have a few books and pictures from the old mission, I hope to return with a few more.
If you are still reading, leave a comment so I can see if I have anyone left!
I have been accused of neglgecting the blog, so here’s a little love:
It seems like the media today is obsessed with taking my childhood. recreating bits and pieces of it, and making more money off of it. Battlestar Galactica, Transformers the Movie, Batman Rebooted, Return to Xanadu – Electric Booglau, and Saul of the Mole Men. I’m not saying this is bad (in fact, I kind of like Saul of the Mole Men), but its kinda like this wierd sense of Deja-Vu. (anyone else notice this?)
I recently came across a video by a band called “No More Kings” called Sweep The Leg, which reminds me once again of my childhood.
This time, it’s directed by the guy who was “Johnny” in the Karate Kid movies. It shows the actor who played Johnny and the actors who played the goons all hanging out in a trailer park, whatching the Karate Kid over and over. Eventually you get to see what could have happened. Its a bit slow at the beginning, but it is worth it.
Probably my favorite line: I was super hero, king of 1985, I showed No Mercy, I was always Cobra Kai
Now just to get Tywire involved…. Because we all know how well Wire and me did with the last project. I think it’s being used for a door jam somewhere?
Well, since I need a bit of clearing house for problems, here goes
Mission.net has been infected with what it looks like This guy is describing I’ll post updates as I find out more. To see what happened previously, look here. This doesn’t make me happy as I’ve been battling a migrain all day.

Last Friday I woke up and checked on Mission.net a Alumni site for Mormon Missionaries. As I was in the midst of bringing up the home page, I was redirected to a site that redirected to a site call k*g*e*b*a. As I shut down the webserver, and started to investigate, I found that every file that the webserver could access was bringing up this page. As I was formulating a plan to fix this problem, Xmission, the ISP where the host lives, physically pulled the plug. Through the weekend I laboured to find someone who could help me get this fixed.
I was finally able to find contact my contact Deseret Book and he got the host SSH access on Tuesday. As soon as I was able to access the box I ran the following sed script
This removed the redirects that had been inserted into the files. The site was sitting pretty as far as having the infestation removed.
I then went to work upgrading the hosts, remotely, through two revisions (using there instructions) only to find all access to the outside had been blocked.
So I went to back to asking for access, asking for the ability to talk to the outside so that I could fix the problem. Every time I asked the ISP, I got rejected.
This is where the Frustration breaks in.
Then, today, I had an idea. I decided to work around the problem. I used what is called ssh port forwarding and I would now I’m using my DSL connection to upgrade the host
First, I created two remote SSH connections, then I used netcat to encapsulate dns traffic.
I’d go into more detail, but since most of the one readers of this blog aren’t tech nerds, I’ll spare ya’ll.
If you want to know the nitty gritty commands and what I did to get it let me know in the comments and I’ll add them to the post.
I used to watch a little show called “In Search of” Voiced by the man who brought us the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins Leonard Nemoy himself.
In these compact little snippets of information I learned that no one knew why the Easter Island heads were there
or that aliens hung out at the bermuda triangle
or that bigfoot existed
or that Blackbeard knew how to bury treasure
or that One-Eyed Willie saved the Goonies from the Fratellis (no thanks to Chunk!)
or that Bilbo Baggins was three feet tall….
Regardless, I went to a movie and saw two movie clips that I must have for my overly complicated Movie setup 1) I heard in the snack line by Frankie and the Frogs (which I have found)
and
2) a THX/Shrek trailer, that I just can’t find online (using my awesome powers of googling). Anyone want to throw me a bone?
