Battlestar Galactica Nerd Nirvana

In my daily check out of digg.com I happened apon a link to BSG: Beyond the Red Line.

Be still my beating heart.

A few years ago, the source code for a game called Freespace 2 was released (guess who played freespace 2?). Well, this group of people have been converting Freespace into a Battlestar Galactica.

Looks like I may have to upgrade my computer for the first time in a long time…

Teaser Trailer
Gameplay Test
BSG Fire salvo

Yeah. I’m a nerd.

That led me to find an interview with David Eick on Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica.

In it he says:

Fans can look forward to the return of Lucy Lawless (D’Anna Biers) and Dean Stockwell (Brother Cavil) in Season Three. Lawless’s character opens the religious issues of the Cylons to betrayal and revenge.

October… Must…Happen…Faster…

Last off, I found an interview Dirk Benidict about the direction that the new series took with Starbuck, his life, and his viewpoints. Very interesting viewpoint. Not the ones I’d be expecting from him.

Going to break soon

Well, the cell phone has been without calling abilities for the last month now.

I may have to buy a new one.

This really sucks.

I’d rather spend it something worthwhile, like, say, a pinball machine.

Just six tablespoonfuls of sugar make the medicine go down

Filed under: All I Really want is Girls, Bout-Me, Single Stupid Guy — Chris @ 8:35 am

Those of you who know me, know that I have had my own personal battle of the bulge. Now, I am a solidly built guy, but even at 6′4″ I was in the 280’s. So a few years back, I decided to do whatever it took to loose the weight. I steadly dropped till I hit 204 and I’ve been in the 210-220’s ever since.

I have recently decided I want to drop to my target weight, or at least get closer, so, while I was surfing blogs researching the subject, I found a interesting fad diet that people were talking about in the blog-o-sphere. It’s called the Shangri-La Diet. People are also referring to it as “Hacking your Legacy Brain”.

Here’s the Jist: 6 Tablespoons Of Sugar over a two hour period during the day. Preferably in warm water.

Theory: Your brain associates good taste with foods that have a lot of calories. Thus, you tend to eat foods that are straight calories.

Now you consume the 1 liter of water and all that sugar, you get all the calories without the taste, thus breaking the connection between taste and calories.

What happened with me: I got feeling wierd walking around with a bag of sugar (also feeling like I was carrying around an illegal substance), the water was gross, and well, I didn’t last a day.

So. I’m just back to the old reliable. Cutting way back on calories and exersizing (Canadian Royal Air Force exersize program here I come)

I’m Linux

I was perusing my webcomics when I hit PVP in it they had a strip making fun of the recent rash of Mac commercials. The ones with the people holding hands and the Photo Printer girl taking a photo out of somewhere I don’t want to know about?

*That* commercial.

So this webcomic almost had me spit milk (Good thing the bowl was in front of me). Ok. I don’t know that I resemble the linux guy, because, well, I don’t wear glasses (though I am still seriously thinking of getting some dark rimmed black glasses)

You Scruffy Lookin Nerf Herder

At my heart, I’m a geek. That being said, I leave most of the geekery over at CheyenneLabs where I post geeky stuff. I’m a geek of many different levels.

1 - Photo Geek
2 - Computer Geek
3 - Pinball Geek
4 - Cooking Geek
5 - Movie Geek
6 - Vintage Video Game Geek
5 - I’ve got other geekness. I just can’t recollect right now..

I think I’ve made the case that I have some Geek roots.

Wikipedia defines geek as:

A geek is a person who is fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by technology and imagination. Geek may not always have the same meaning as the term nerd (see nerd for a discussion of the disputed relation between the terms).

So. I totally Geeked out when I found out someone had made it so that you can Play Tie Fighter in Windows XP.

These are the games in which me, and the second oldest bro spent hours trying to beat that stupid STAR DESTROYER (some anger left over). Then in Tie Fighter, we found out the hard way that Empire doesn’t take kindly to having you fire on it’s own ships. Even if it was just by accident. I was waxed more by the Empire, as a Tie Fighter pilot than when I was a Rebel. Anyways, I digress…

We had fun, we had to cheat work both times to win the game (At one point we were moving about the galaxy in our own Star Destroyers, ah the wonders of youth).

I think I need to go dust off some of those disks.. And find a floppy drive.

Review Grade: A

I know, it’s been a while since I threw a review up here.

So here goes.

After deciding not to see The Da Vinci Code I decided to go see Over The Hedge.

“Over The Hedge” finds it’s roots in the Funny pages, where there is indeed a Racoon, Turtle and host of other creatures. Thankfully, unlike Garfield (or the Garfield II trailer I was forced to site through), this film is funny and enjoyable.

We start off meeting up with RJ, a racoon voiced by Bruce Willis, who after making a very bad decision has to go foraging for food.

By chance he happens apon a group of animals who have awakened from hibernation to find their forest replaced by suburbia. You can tell a lot of thought went into the voice talent of this film. Steve Catrell steals the show as Hammy a very overactive squirrel. Just as enjoyable is watching Ozzie the possum (William Shatner) die in many melodramatic ways. I mean really, who can die better than Captian Kirk?

The film starts off fast, with a short lag in the middle, but picks up steam and finishes with a hilarious save by Hammy. I believe the difference between this and other Dreamwork animation (Shrek, Shrek II, etc) is that the writers were having a good time, and let the comedy flow. Acompanying the writing is a rather snazzy soundtrack with a number of songs by Ben Folds. Gags, innuendo, and recurring jokes (Hint: Mushroom Clouds) made this film very enjoyable.

I’d even go see it again, and maybe get the DVD.
