Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
I had a life changing event last night.
It happened like most life changing events happen. I was over at the local King Soopers. I was perusing the isles of medication. Walking amongst all the brightly colored bottles, boxes, and containers. You see, I’ve been letting my stuble grow. When I ran out of shaving cream, I figured, “Self, why get more shaving cream when self will be moving, and can buy said shaving cream then.” I don’t have a GF to complain about the stuble, so I figured I was set. Until I remembered that the beginning stages of stuble ANNOY ME SO BAD.
I had a few more things to do. I needed some allergy medicine, I needed some muscle relaxant (I’m old, and I’m moving). It was as I was swaying up and down those Isles that it happened.
I turned Country.
Michael has been trying to convert me for years. I have resisted his push successfully, then I am struck down while grocery shopping.
The song 19 Something by Mark Wills came on. I was converted against my will, ya’ll.
I saw Star Wars at least eight times
Had the pac-man pattern memorized
And I’ve seen the stuff they put inside
Stretch ArmstrongI was Roger Staubach back in my back yard
Had a shoebox full of baseball cards
And a couple of Evil Kinevil stars
On my right arm
Well, I was a kid when Elvis died
And my mama criedChorus:
It was 1970-something
In the world that I grew up in
Farrah Faucett hair-do days
Bell bottoms and eight-track tapes
Lookin’ back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn’t trade those days for nothin’
It was 1970-somethingIt was the dawning of a new decade
When we got our first microwave
And Dad broke down and finally shaved
Those sideburns off
I took the stickers off of my Rubix cube
Watched MTV all afternoon
My first love was Daisy Duke
In them cut off jeans
A Space Shuttle fell out of the sky
And the whole world criedChorus:
It was 1980-something
In the world that I grew up in
Skating rinks and Black Trans Ams
Big hair and parachute pants
Lookin’ back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn’t trade those days for nothin’
It was 1980-somethingNow I got a mortgage and an SUV
But all this responsibility
Makes me wish sometimes
Sometimes….Chorus:
It was 1980-something
In the world that I grew up in
Skating rinks and Black Trans Ams
Big hair and parachute pants
Lookin’ back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn’t trade those days for nothin’
It was 1980-something1970-something
He sung about Parachute Pants ya’ll. I ‘ve been looking for Pop & Rock songs that talk about parachute pants, but things look bleak for the rock world.
It looks like it’s time for me to find a cowboy hat, and some Levi’s that are way to tight for my skinny white man legs. Oh, and don’t forget the monster sized cowboy boots.
I’m hoping if I can find some “Shot Through The Heart” to listen to, I might be able to convert back, but I’m not holding out much hope.
Ya’ll come back now, ya hear!
I go in phases where I’ll listen to a lot of country. I think that I like country songs like the one mentioned here because they really talk about my experiences. A lot of the country “stars” are our age or even a little older. A lot of the pop / rock stars are either in their late teens / early 20s or trying to act like they’re in their late teens or early 20s.
Oh Chris, say it isn’t so.
Well chris- It happend! I can’t say that I am sorry! Once you are a counrty fan you will always be a counrty fan. Well know you will have to get a cowboy hat that they measure in gallons and if your knees are bigger then your thighs then you will look the part and look great in wranglers. Good luck !!!!! May the cowboy force be with you.

Ladies.
It happened.
But I’m working my way back to Rock. One way, or another. I’m gonna git back to Rock.
