1985
I recently got my U2 tickets (Of which I am stoked). And I was talking to a co-worker about the sad state of music today, and he told me about Bowling for Soups song, 1985 If you are some joe random user, who doesn’t know me. I tend to identify with music, and I identified with this song (and one other). Here is a excerpt from the song
She’s seen all the classics, she knows every line
‘Breakfast Club’, ‘Pretty in Pink’
Even ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’
She rocked out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she’d get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran
Where’s the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who’s the other guy that’s singing in Van Halen
When did reality become TV
Whatever happened to sitcoms, game shows
On the radio was
Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
Cause she’s still preoccupied

Well, I’m not quite that old, but I remember it all. Kind of makes me feel a little old. That and the fact that I recognized all the music in the “Wedding Singer”.
It’s got some good, angry songs.
Made me fill a bit better 😉
