For those of you who know me, you know that my politics are all over the place. I don’t hold to a particular party line. I’ve done volunteer work for both the Republican and Democratic parties. I shook presidential hopefuls hands. I’ve called voters the night before an election urging them to get out and vote.
I am invested in this Nation. That being said, one of the issues that I am very concerned about is the abuse of Intellectual Property Laws. Copyright and Patents are Monopolies given by the government to individuals/corporations to ensure that more public works are created. As it was when the Nation was first created the limit was 15 years after work was copyrighted. Now it’s the life of the author + 75 years. I fail to see how this helps the author, and in the event of the author being a Corporation, how do you measure it’s life?
The Democratic hopeful in Utah for the upcoming Senate Race is Pete Ashdown. I’ve met Pete a number of times and he’s a good guy. He’s running against Senator Orrin Hatch, who among other things, has advocated that there be hardware on computers to allow publishers to destroy them if there is illegal content on them. Pete looks like your typical computer geek, but I agree with a lot of his stances.
So for the first time, I’m urging people to take a look at a Democrat and give him a chance.
