Solo Act

Filed under: Mission Posts — Mike @ 6:54 am

Well, hello to everyone!  This is Elder Hardy, signing in from Henderson, North Carolina.  Everything has been going well, but it has been quite a change being with a missionary who hasn’t quite learned spanish (that is because he is only assigned to learn english).  Elder Baird is pretty cool, and as most of you already know, he is closing down on his mission..in about 5 weeks, he’ll be a goner.  So, this is the 2nd time killing off someone, he seems to have a good desire to still work, so I’m excited to say the least.

This last week was interesting, because when we visited the hispanics, it was a solo act, but that made it a lot of fun also.  I am really going to start working on getting some spanish exchanges on the nights that we have english exchanges, and then we can do a full exchange.  That would be sweet.  Also, being the only one who speaks spanish, I have all the responsabilities to translate for combined meetings, like I did this last Sunday.  There was a visitor from the Stake Presidency and also President Wallis and his wife visited our branch.  So, that was really night translating for them.  For some reason, translating for them was made a lot easier, I’m sure it was the gift of tongues.  My mind was clear and I could speak and listen very very clearly.  It was a wonderful experience.  I also taught the spanish sunday school class and probably will everyweek here on out until they call someone or until my new spanish comp comes.  President Wallis said it will just be for this transfer that I have a english speaking companion.  Then, afterwards the spanish comes again!  It is kind of odd who everything is going, but I will get used to it.

Everything is going alright….no dates right now, but we are working on it!  Hope everyone has a great week and I’d love to hear from you!

Elder Hardy

*one funny experience - We were tracting (knocking doors) and we came across a crazy black dude.  The first thing he said was, “Are you Jehovah Witnesses, because if you are Jehovah Witnesses, you need to leave right now”.  I then explained to him that we were mormons and he paused for a second and then said happily, “Oh then…come right in!”.   It was pretty sweet…
