I guess I have discovered one thing that Nevada tries to specialize in. Prison Areas. We drove through Nevada in July and when we did, we saw at least 5 different locations of Prisons. While it is possible that Nevada may have a lot of the criminal element in their cities due to the underworld that gambling encourages, I also think that Nevada has discovered that the lack of any significant population in their state, and the huge expanse of wide open spaces has made locating prisons in Nevada a source of income for them. I am glad that I never needed to stop when I passed those places.

I am convinced that if they removed Nevada from the map, no one would miss it except for those who gamble and love to go a state that is hot, dry, arid, and desolate. I sometimes thought Wyoming was desolate, but for heaven’s sake, you can drive for hundreds of miles in Nevada without seeing a thing, and then when you arrive in a city, it is way too small. There are no places to shop, no real good places to eat (except for Las Vegas, Mesquite, and Wendover) and you just wouldn’t miss it. I think I wouldn’t mind if Nevada were to secede from the Union.
