2 years ago east of our little subdivision in Payson we had a black mark on the ridge, locally known as Rocky Ridge. This mark was the burn area from the fire that occurred on the hill side and which endangered the homes in the subdivision.
While we were at Lake Powell near the first of August (just a little over 2 years later) we had a much bigger black mark happen on Mt. Loafer to the south of us. From those who were there we have heard that this was much scarier. It was hot, very smoky, and they evacuated our neighborhood because they were concerned the fire would jump some roads to the south of us, and once in the ravine and the open fields to the south of our house, it would have been a dangerous situation. There are many who feel that it was the intervention of a loving God that saved our homes. It may have been that, or just a change in wind direction, but whatever it was I am grateful that I can still stand in my home and look at the black mark on the mountain. It is a really big mark, and I am grateful that it didn’t extend to my home.
