Well, my kids would be the first to tell you that during church (Our Sacrament Meeting) that we have a long history of passing notes back and forth. Since I have been in the Bishopric, that practice has stopped. Well, I would say, that perhaps the reason has stopped is that I am not there. Is this because I have been out of the loop, and that I am the real cause? Today was the Primary Sacrament Meeting program and as a result I had an opportunity to sit with the family, such as it was. Once I was firmly ensonced in the congregation, Julie started writing notes to me. I think I must be the cause. How do I help the family to overcome this great addiction. The only thing that I can conclude is that I am going to have to sit on the stand for the forseable future. I don’t think that is the solution, but I am not sure what is.
Well, it was a repeat of 1984, but the other team won? Yes, my poor Tigers lost the World Series. Oh well. I had hopes of a repeat of that year, but I guess if they had to loose, it was OK to loose to the Cardinals, as they are one of my next favorite teams. Michael isn’t going to like this though. His Detroit teams haven’t done too well lately when they get in championship series with other teams. Well, they did make it to the World Series.
1-Followed the Young Women Leaders around, and around, and around again in a Corn Maize. We were lost a lot longer than we needed to be.
2-Went to a Young Men/Young Women’s activity right after a snow storm, in a corn maize, which any intelligent person would guess would lead to muddy feet, and then the most basic and major mistake,
3-Allowed myself and my lovely spouse to go in the first place.
I don’t know what we were thinking. We both got in the car, vowing that we wouldn’t take any of the kids, that we wouldn’t get sucked into going into the maize, and that we were only going to be good citizens. Instead, we came home with mud on our clothes, are shoes covered with mud and almost ruined, and more than a little cold. Ins’t it wonderful to be involved with the youth.
I guess they keep us thinking young!! (Or so they say)
One of the greatest trials for my children was to be riding as a family in the van when Mom and Dad would put in a James Taylor tape. Oh how they hated that and mocked us. Despite that, I love them anyway. In the course of my journies through life today, I listened to a song by James Taylor that is just so descriptive of where I am right now in my journey through life. It is called “The Secret O’ Life”. Lyrics are as follows:
The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There ain’t nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we’re on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride
The secret of love is in opening up your heart
It’s okay to feel afraid
But don’t let that stand in your way no
‘Cause anyone knows that love is the only road
And since we’re only here for a while yeah
Might as well show some style
Give us a smile now
Isn’t it a lovely ride
Sliding down
And gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It’s just a lovely ride
Now the thing about time is that time
Isn’t really real
It’s all on your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said that he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race
Isn’t that a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It’s just a lovely ride
Isn’t that a lovely ride
Oh mama yes
See me sliding down
And gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It’s just a lovely ride
Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Yeah, that is where I am. I am learning to enjoy the passage of time, and sometimes it ain’t to easy.
Today I went out to Elberta to a dairy farm. This trip brought back memories of my youth, when I would “help” my cousins, by getting up in the morning, and going out with them to milk the cows. Today I saw an operation where they milk about 5,000 cows a day. They line em up, milk em 24-7. What an operation. The critters walk in, get ready to work and stand there while a computerized machine empties them of their milk. It was really something. It was a fun time to relive memories.
Well, son, you indeed are right sometimes. This song, by the Moody Blues is about the King of all Drug Gurus, Timothy Leary. Yeah, some of my generation tripped out, but then we dreamed and for that I am proud. Sometimes I think we as a nation have abandoned our dreams and become much way to practical. We need to dream and take trips (but not necessarily with drugs)
Yes Chris, to answer your question, sometimes the 60’s was about drugs, sometimes, it was much more. I give you the song “The Legend of a Mind”
They say we hit the 300 million mark this morning. Growth, growth, going on everywhere. I remember (this is where the memories kick in gang) the days when there was actually space between the cities on the Wasatch Front. Now, farmland is gobbled up by acres and acres of new homes. This is nation is growing, particularly Utah. I hope we don’t outstrip our food supply and in the west, water. We need to be careful.
Whoa, I have old people skin. I went to the doctor today with the wife and we started to look at that covering that we all have with us. Our skin is loosing its elasticity. This is not good. We have old people skin, or we are getting there. Somewhere on this planet there should for sure be a fountain of youth. Now the task is just to find it……
I am talking about the United States surely. Well, not really. I am actually refering to Taiwan. There are tons of restaurants, particularly fast food restaurants that people visit every day of the week. While there are also still street stands, that is not as prevelant as they were 30 years ago. In any event, people are so busy, working tons of hours a day, that eating before you get home is a lot more common than one might think, and makes this nation a lot like the United States. I was amazed by the mass of fast food places that were everywhere. They were American, Chinese, and every other nationality that you can think of. I believe that Eating Out is a national pastime in the island of Taiwan.
